Yesterday's Heroes

Yesterday's Heroes - Heather Long I can’t say I didn’t like this novel, but I was expecting something totally different. The description and the cover make you think about a story with spies, secret missions and lots of adventures. We have spies, we have a mission but..the suspense and the adventures are not in the quantity I was hoping. The novel looks more like an introduction to a series, but from what I saw, it’s not. Unfortunately. Because the main idea it’s really interesting and it’s a pity that it was treated in a somehow superficial way.The story talks about two groups: one of super heroes from the past (1960) and one of spies from the present, sent in the past to stop the disastrous evolution of the world. But everything changes when one of the spies and one of the super heroes feel an inexplicable attraction for the other one. And neither manage to resist. The book focuses on the moments when Rory is captured by the spies and she slowly begins to understand their mission. She stops seeing them as enemies, especially one of them, but in the same time, her team of super heroes tries to save her, almost sending the world to disaster. And Rory is the only one able to stop this.Unfortunately, at the end of the book, you have a lot of questions. This is why I was saying before that the book looks more like an introduction to a larger story. The author doesn’t offer any explanation for the disappearance of two members of Rory’s team, she doesn’t specifies who is the enemy of both teams who will lead the world to disaster and she doesn’t clarify the mystery regarding the protagonist and her implication in the future’s events. What I liked is the way the book makes you think about destiny. At the end of the novel, it’s impossible not to try to understand if our actions are conditioned by the fate or on the contrary, if the way we act modifies our path.Probably if the author will continue someday the story, I will be curious to read it, because until I got to the last page, I actually liked it. But, if Yesterday's Heroes remains an independent book, the main feeling about it is disappointment.Pros:- The action manages to keep you entertained and it’s really engaging. The story is well written, some subjects are very well detailed and until the last page (when you discover the sudden ending), you don’t feel that something is missing.Cons:- Incompletely. This is the word that keeps popping in my mind after I finished the novel. A good story, with interesting ideas, well described characters and a nice writing style. But all of this become pale in comparison with the sudden ending and the mysteries that remain unsolved.
